What is Love Basket?
Founded in 1979, Love Basket is an adoption ministry with both a domestic
and international focus. Love Basket began in the hearts of two missionary
families who had traveled extensively overseas and had seen the plight of
destitute children. They had adopted foreign-born children themselves and
knew from their missionary travels the need for loving, capable Christian
families to care for the many homeless children around the world.
Other families contacted the missionary families for assistance in
adopting. As the number of international adoptions increased, they simply
could not keep up with the requests for assistance. Therefore, Love Basket
was incorporated and licensed as a child-placing (adoption) agency in
1982.
The Domestic Adoptive Placement Program began in 1985 in response to
requests from pregnant women who sought our help. Some were deciding
whether to abort or carry their babies and others were deciding whether
to parent or release their child for adoption. As we offered assistance to
these women during their pregnancies, numerous babies of Caucasian,
Biracial and African-American heritage became available for adoption.
The Lord’s hand of blessing and direction has been on Love Basket since
its inception. Without His opening of doors and hearts, this ministry
would not exist.
How is Love Basket licensed?
Love Basket has been continuously licensed as a "child-placing agency" by
the Children's Division of the State of Missouri since 1982. Love
Basket is tax-exempt for federal income tax purposes and is also licensed
and has an office in Minnesota. Under the auspices of each state’s
Interstate Compact office, Love Basket can place children in any state or
territory of the U.S.A. Love Basket is also recognized in the countries of
India, Romania, Guatemala, and the Ukraine as an agency
approved to place children from those nations with families in the U.S.A.
A program is currently under development in Costa Rica as well.
Love Basket is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial
Accountability (E.C.F.A.), the Joint Council on International Children’s
Services (JCICS), Community Adoption Council, the National Association of
Christian Child & Family Agencies (NACCFA) and the Adoption and Foster
Care Coalition of Missouri.
Our international programs are open to residents of all 50 states and
territories of the United States.
Our Domestic Program is open to residents in
all states except New York.

Love Basket is a ministry desiring to place children into homes of a
variety of income levels, therefore costs are kept as low as possible.
Part of Love Basket’s support comes from the fees charged for adoption.
However, some of the support for our overseas work, plus the costs of
operating an office here in the United States, are not met by adoption
fees. Therefore, funds are needed to support the work overseas and
stateside. Regular donors are actively sought. All gifts are
tax-deductible for income tax purposes. Please call our offices for more
information if you are interested in becoming a Love Basket donor or
sponsor.
