India - Outreach Ministries
Anurag (Eternal Love)
In 1987 our North India Director, Prem Gideon, felt impressed to find a
way to help the people of India. After bringing so many beautiful children
from India to the United States, Love Basket wanted to find a way to “give
back” to the people of this country. From this the ministry of Anurag —
which means “Eternal Love” — was born. It is run by a dedicated staff made
up completely of Indian nationals. Located in a walled village called Lado
Sarai outside of Delhi, Anurag began as a social outreach for children
doing poorly in school. After the success of this program, we looked for
ways to meet more needs of the people in this village.
Women in India have a very poor chance at supporting themselves if they
are unable to read, so a literacy program for women was formed. After
completing the literacy program, women have the opportunity to obtain
industrial training such as cutting and tailoring and gem cutting. Our
tailoring program is nationally recognized and
approved by the Indian
government.
In addition to the tutoring program, the needs of the children are met
through:
•Wednesday Bible Club — ministering to up to 300 children.
•Vacation Bible School — ministering to 700 children this year; 138 of
them received Jesus as their Savior!
•Mid-day Meal Program provides lunch for several hundred children daily.
•Daycare for the children of women in training and literacy programs, as
well as working women in the village.
•Sponsorship which provides blankets, food, clothing and other supplies to
destitute families.
•There is no government welfare program in India, so begging and
prostitution are very prevalent. Our goal is to minister the love of Jesus
to these people while giving them an opportunity to become educated and
support their families in a safe vocation they can be proud of.
