Love
Basket’s Adoption Program in the Ukraine
Following is a summary of
the main features of the Ukrainian placement program. It must be kept in mind that this is a new
program for Love Basket, and that the information presented here is
subject to change as our experience in the foreign country grows.
-
Residency: All 50 states and territories served.
-
Religion: Believing Christian.
-
Singles: Single women accepted.
-
Length of Marriage: Three years minimum; previous divorce
acceptable.
-
Infertility/Childlessness: Not required.
-
Children Available: Toddlers and older children.
-
Waiting Time: We are estimating that 2 -
5 months will be
required from acceptance of your Home Study to referral of a child for
your consideration, followed by your trip to the Ukraine to choose/meet
you child and complete the adoption. We can only quote to you
average times frames that it normally takes for a particular phase of
the adoption phase.
-
Travel: At the
present time, travel is required by both adoptive parents.
-
Parental leave from employment once child arrives: 60 day
minimum (can be either or both parents in any combination totaling at
least 60 days).
-
Procedure: Adoption agencies or prospective parents can
contact us to request application materials. We will send our
application packet to either party and request the Home Study once Love
Basket’s Application Packets I and II are reviewed and accepted. Your
Home Study should be completed by a licensed child-placing agency or
social worker in your state of residence. In states where Love Basket
has licensed offices, we will complete the Home Study. In other states,
a licensed international adoption agency should complete the Home Study
assessment.
-
Preferences: Parents can state preference for age range and
sex of child they seek, and any disabilities they are willing to
consider.
-

What is not included in the above costs?
You are responsible for fees not included in the Placement Fee, including
but not limited to the following: Immigration and Naturalization
fees/costs prior to and following adoptive placement, notary and
state-level certification fees for your Ukrainian documents, and attorney
fees in your state of residence when you re-adopt the child in the U.S.
and obtain a U.S. birth certificate and automatic citizenship.
-
Medical Issues: We have been made aware that some children
coming from former Soviet Bloc countries, including the Ukraine, are
experiencing medical problems and/or adjustment issues that were not
known or were not apparent prior to placement. No agency or physician
can "guarantee" the health status of a child prior to placement, as the
efficacy of evaluative and assessment measures vary widely in any
foreign country. While the problems that are seen may be minor and
correctable, adoptive parents need to be aware of the possibility of
undiagnosed medical or adjustment problems that in particular may
accompany some of the children coming from these countries.
-
Post-placement:
Adoptive parents make a commitment to the Ukrainian Embassy to register
the child upon entry into the U.S. and to provide annual progress
reports to them (with a copy to Love Basket). Should you choose to
re-adopt your child in the U.S., you local court of jurisdiction may
require formal post-placement visits by a social worker.
