• Couples must be married at least 3 years. The minimum age is 23 years and the maximum age is 45 years for the younger spouse – no more than 100 years total for the combined ages of both spouses. (For example, if the younger spouse is 45, the other spouse cannot be older than 55 years of age.)
  • An active Christian faith (a reference from your pastor/priest will be required).
  • While infertility is not required for our Domestic program, birth parents typically indicate a preference for infertile couples. Therefore fertile couples may find their wait significantly longer.
  • Because the initial time of bonding is so important, it is required that one parent stay home to care for the child for at least 60 days, beginning on the date of placement. Spouses may alternate time off to reach the 60 day minimum.
  • Prospective parents living within a 500 mile radius of our Hillsboro, Missouri office are required to attend a one day orientation and training before an adoptive placement is finalized. The orientation is offered twice a year, on a Saturday. Couples living over 500 miles from Love Basket are strongly encouraged, but not required to attend this training; however, those prospective adoptive parents are required to view a video presentation of the orientation.
  • Love Basket makes every effort to match prospective birth and adoptive parents according to the kind and amount of contact they desire to have, both before and after the placement of a child. As a minimum, adoptive families must be willing to correspond (and send photos) to the birth parents at least annually until the child reaches 18 years of age.
  • Children are placed in all U.S. states and territories except New York State, where Love Basket places children through international adoption only.
